The Carlton class has been established since 2002, we meet every Monday evening. A dedicated childrens class runs from 7.00pm to 8.00pm with a seperate adults class directly afterwards at 8.15pm to 9.15pm. The luxury of having two classes split by age means that we can concentrate on fun based learning for the kids including team events, obstacle courses and races as well as learning martial arts and of course descipline and respect for others. Whereas in the adults class the emphasis is based more on fitness, self defence and learning kickboxing as a sport in much more detail. Throughout both classes there is a good mix of pleasent, respectful people from all walks of life and a strong family friendly atmosphere. Both classes take place in court number one of the main sports hall which is a good sized, well ventilated room, two well lit car parks offer ample parking if you intend driving, its a great venue with all the usual amenities.

Student of The Year Awards - Christmas 2009 (21/12/09)
Each year at Christmas time we present our ‘Student of the Year Awards’ to students of merit who have proved themselves through hard work and dedication over the last twelve months. These awards are often given to people that have excellent attendance, a great attitude towards their training and often those who are happy to partner up and train well with anyone else within the class. Therefore it gives me great pleasure to announce that this year the awards go to....
* Junior Student of The Year - Hannah Amos & Kara Amos *

Thursday Class Cancelled For Two Weeks - 11th and 18th of June 2009
Dear Carlton Students
Unfortunately there will be no class this Thursday evening (11th of June) or next Thursday evening (18th of June), regular Thursday instructor James Turner is away on holiday and, although I had arranged for a replacement instructor to cover the classes, due to circumstances beyond my control he is now unable to provide cover for the class. Please feel free to attend the Arnold class on Wednesdays instead, see the link for details on this class.
Sorry to inconvenience anybody, we do try our very best to ensure uninterrupted tuition wherever possible but on rare occasion, like now, class cancellations are simply unavoidable, if you wish to discuss this or any other matter with me please do not hesitate to contact me on 07968 031552. Mondays will remain completely unaffected.
Yours in Martial Arts Dan Maguire (Regional Instructor - 4th Dan)

East Midlands Kickboxing - Copy of Newsletter handed out in January 2009
Change of Timetable for 2009 - Separate Classes for Children and Adults
Dear Kickboxing Students
After much deliberation I have decided to re-structure the way the classes are split at the Carlton class. The current system of beginners in one class and adults in another has been posing a problem for me throughout 2008. The classes are not balanced well with anywhere up to 30 students training in the first class whilst only a handful of people are training in the second.
This has meant that many of you who train in the beginners class have had to put up with cramped conditions, sometimes when very busy it has verged on being dangerous. Those of you who have trained in the second session have found the lack of atmosphere (due to it being a small group) off-putting, as an instructor I have to admit I myself find it hard to get motivated when teaching to less than 10 people.
There has also been an increase in the junior students who have been attending over the last 12 months, not only are there now more children training at Carlton than ever before, they are also very regular and many of them train every week without fail. This has also become more of an issue as adults and children generally have different reasons for training and the instructors ideally would teach in different ways to the two groups.
A great example of why this would be a good split is the last (merged) class of 2008, when we had the team event we split the class into two teams, one team of children and one team of adults, as it worked out there were exactly 16 people in each team, a perfect split representative of the average class. Therefore I have decided to segregate the classes weekly as follows.
* Children (up to and including 12 year olds) – Mondays – 7.00pm till 8.00pm
* Teens and Adults (13 years and above) – Mondays – 8.15pm till 9.15pm
This new timetable will take effect from Monday the 2nd of February and should not affect that many of you, all of the children currently train in the first class already and most of the adults train in the later session. This will only really affect the lower grade adults who, on the old system, would have eventually been moved up to the second session anyway.
The benefits of this new timetable will be seen as soon as it is implemented, for the children I can concentrate on more fun based learning as well as the regular training methods they are used to, I can also work on instilling into them a sense of respect and discipline for others. For the adults the classes will be more in depth regarding learning the finer details of techniques, more cardio and exercise based without any children in the class.
Originally I had hoped to run the kids class at 6.00pm and the adults at 7.15pm but this is not possible due to current block booking by badminton players, if this opportunity arises further down the line I may run both classes earlier. I hope that you can all understand why these changes are necessary and I know that you will all benefit greatly once they have been carried out.
Yours in Martial Arts, Dan Maguire (Area Instructor)

Introduce a Friend and Earn Yourself £25.00
As a special promotion over the next few months we will be running our popular Introduce a Friend scheme within the club, this is usually carried out by handing out to your friends, colleagues or family members one of our refferal slip which you can get from your instructor. The slip will have all the information you will need to pass onto your friends making your life really easy! You write your name on the slips so that we know who introduced who and if they join up you will receive £25.00 cash as a thank you.....It's That Easy!
How much and how soon would I get my referral fee money? If somebody you have referred then decides to join one of our classes, taking out full membership, you will instantly be rewarded with a £25.00 cash referral fee as a thank you for spreading the word.
The more people you introduce the more money we will pay you! If two of your friends sign up, we will pay you £50.00 and so on, one young boy, ten years old, has recently earned himself £125.00 by bringing along five of his school class mates to one of our clubs, If a ten year old can do it so can you!!
Want to earn even more money? If you could do with some extra income, we are looking for people to poster up the local area with our new EMK posters, places like take-aways, fish and chip shops, newsagents, schools, places of work etc. would all be ideal.
How would I be rewarded? We will make a list of the places you have put your posters so that if people join up from seeing your poster we can reward you with £25.00 per person in exactly the same way as the referral system, we always ask how new members heard about us.
But the class I train at is already busy! All of our classes need continual ongoing promotion to help replace the people that leave due to natural drop of rates and personal changes of circumstance, if your class is already pretty busy it is probably because similar promotion has been in place in previous years.
